FEXP is a Fire Emblem game creation engine utilizing RPG Maker XP and was created by BwdYeti.
Compared to romhacking, FEXP does has a couple of advantages such as being able to use most music file formats and having no limitations in terms of colors, map size and units.
However, due to the fact that the development of FEXP was not finished at the point of release, the engine is rather clunky and misses functions, like a working preparation screen and convoy.
There is also a lack of documentation and very little resources to get information to go off of.
BwdYeti is currently developing FEXP's successor, FEXNA which yet has to be released to the public.
Unless one really wants to take use of the few advantages FEXP gives over romhacking, it is heavily advised to use romhacking tools like FEBuilder, Fire Emblem Magic, or Buildfiles.
